We stopped at César E. Chávez National Monument during our drive down to Joshua Tree.
The visitor center was still in a fledgling state with only a small exhibit of black and white photographs gracing the walls. Based on the NPS Virtual Tour and the Google Arts And Culture Indoor Virtual Tour more exhibits have been added.
My one photograph of the monument is of a quote that was located on one of the baseboards at the center -
A few other quotes from César E. Chávez -
History will judge societies and governments — and their institutions — not by how big they are or how well they serve the rich and the powerful, but by how effectively they respond to the needs of the poor and the helpless.
Preservation of one’s own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures.
If you really want to make a friend, go to someone’s house and eat with him… the people who give you their food give you their heart.
